Review by Lane Hollingsworth
“Instructions for living a life. Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” – Mary Oliver
“Find The Good” is a quick read challenging you to, well, find the good. Lende, the Alaskan author, writes obituaries for her local paper. As dark as this may sound, she uses great detail to ensure she has an understanding of each individual before summing up their existence in a few paragraphs. She is respectful & takes an inquisitive approach to each obituary.
While Lende’s life seems unrelateable at times, (picturesque Alaska, long evening walks with neighbors, etc.) you don’t mind because the optimism is refreshing (a nice break from my bleak Twitter feed.) This is a great book to remind yourself that life is short, share it with people you love & always take the time to hear the stories of those around you.
